Park Lawn adds Oklahoma City funeral homes and cemetery in first 2026 deal
Why this matters
This is one acquisition in an ongoing roll-up, not a single large deal. The pattern of many small purchases, more than any one of them, is what shifts local ownership structure over time.
Park Lawn Corporation, the Toronto-based death care company that traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange as PLC until a 2024 buyout by Homesteaders Life Company and Birch Hill Equity Partners took it private, announced an acquisition effective January 12, 2026: two Oklahoma City funeral homes, Vondel L. Smith & Sons Mortuaries and Crematoriums, plus the associated Heritage Burial Park at South Lakes cemetery.
Park Lawn did not disclose a purchase price. CEO Jennifer W. Hay said in the announcement that the businesses “represent a significant addition to our existing footprint” in the Oklahoma City market, noting they had served their communities for close to seven decades.
Park Lawn’s company profile page describes it as “the fastest growing player in the industry,” with businesses across two Canadian provinces and 18 US states as of this acquisition. Its own acquisition announcements show the roll-up continuing: at least five further US deals between March and July 2026, including single funeral homes in Tennessee and Oklahoma and a 22-property group in Mississippi.
For owner-operators watching consolidation activity, this deal is a small but representative data point: large roll-up companies, whether publicly traded or, like Park Lawn now, privately held, continue to acquire established, multi-generation local businesses on a rolling basis rather than through headline-making mergers.
